The acquisition, expected to close next month, is part of DC Logistics’ ambition to grow into one of the nation’s 20 largest LTL carriers.
GLS Group will sell its U.S. less-than-truckload and brokerage operations to California-based DC Logistics, the companies announced Aug. 12.
The sale by the Netherlands-based parcel delivery company to the Jurupa Valley, California-based LTL carrier includes GLS US Freight and GLS US Business Solutions. The deal is expected to close Sept. 1. Terms were not disclosed.
DC Logistics CEO Judas Castro said the move accelerates his company’s goal to “become a Top 20 LTL carrier in the United States.” GLS US Freight is an LTL carrier, while GLS US Business Solutions provides brokerage services.
GLS US Freight has 266 power units and 269 drivers, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data. DC Logistics has 142 power units and 76 drivers per the company’s information on the FMCSA website.
Castro said his company also plans to revive the Mountain Valley Express brand, which was “known for its history of excellence in customer service. GLS Group acquired Mountain Valley Express in 2019 and two years later rebranded it GLS US Freight as part of its integration strategy.
GLS Group’s announcement said selling its U.S. freight divisions aligns with its strategy to focus on its core parcel business and strengthen its parcel service for U.S. customers.
